NAVIGON Canada app good for
Mostly I want a GPS that shows the street names clearly, including when Im not navigating to a destination. I wasted $40 on the Garmin Pilot app which in map mode has tiny street names. Skip.
The Navigon app has beautiful, big, clear street names all the time.
It is also smart enough to stop polling GPS signals when I switch apps, so it doesnt drain the battery. This is an important feature. It also downloads the full map onto your iPhone when you buy it, so it doesnt need a lot of data use to run - its fast.
Its auto-zoom display zooms in closer when you slow down, and you can manually zoom as needed. Cool feature.
I havent tried the Tom Tom app and wont, since Navigon is excellent.
Incredible app. Can I upgrade from Canada to Canada / US?
Best nav app ever.
App is real good! Notafications r good too. Like the setup. Jus wish the catogries (gas, bank) icons wer bigger hard to see an blend into the map background. But over all no probs. So far :)))
Navigon is great. It hasnt let me down yet. Would like options to customize but functionality is 10/10. Have tried other iPhone gps apps and navigon is the clear winner.
04/15/2011 marks the greatest day!!
Cuz we got updates on it!! The best part is, the updates come in free!!! Thanks thanks thanks!!!!! You are the best!
Still hope the following would happen in the near future:
* Hope there are more language options....
* Can the favorites be stored under different folders, instead of scrolling through a lengthy list every time....
Thanks
I got this app for $29.99 today and in a few hours went up to $59.99
I have nothing but good things to say about this app, finding address is easy, looking up new addresses from google function is easy, voice guidance is clear, positioning is pinpoint accurate, options menu items are easy to figure out, but mostly looking up poi is very easy I love this app. Its the most expensive app Ive had and the best. I placed it on my bottom row.
July 5th update: why dont favorites appear in alphabetical order?
Some bad moments
I would give it Four Stars as an App but for only $10.00 more you receive Navigon North America which includes all of Canada and the US.
At first glance this seems like a decent GSP software, and to a point, it is, but after several weeks of usage, Ive noticed that its lacking in numerous areas. One of the the most ridiculous things about it is that it actually doesnt display the house number that youre heading to once youve reached the target street. I use it to get to 10-20 different locations every day, and Im forced to switch to my scheduling software every time Ive reached my target street in order to remember what house number I was heading to. This poses a safety risk. Text-to-speech speaks out the #, but usually only once youve passed it. Its mind boggling that they would leave out such a basic feature.
Also, the estimated time of arrival is extremely inaccurate. Often times it estimates 90 minutes, and it only takes 55 minutes (I dont speed). Even within the city, its usually off by up to 15 minutes on a 35 minute trip. They say it "learns" the more you drive. Well, I drive 200-300 kms a day, and it hasnt learned a thing.
Sometimes it would simply cut off speech mid-sentence for no apparent reason.
To top it all off, it almost never takes me to my destination using the quickest route (which is what I always select). There are much quicker routes than the one it chooses, yet it always insists on choosing the slower speed roads, which are also more congested.
Another disappointment is the incredibly small size of the buttons. Are you serious? All that iPad real estate and you make the buttons a few millimeters in size?
On the up side, it looks pretty. Whoop dididee.
I should have gone the TomTom route (pun totally intended).
UPDATE: Ok, Ive waited long enough for an update, hoping theyd fix the basic issues (like adding house #s), but several months later theyve still not released an update. So Im downgrading my rating to 1 star and deleting it from my iPad so I can move on to a better GPS program for my iPad whose developers actually listen to customer concerns.
Were is the 2.0 version for Canada? Only purchased this because of the 2.0 version.
I hardly recommend you come on Tom Tom GPS not this navigator I used both for long time in Canada
ive used tomtom, garmin, and now navigon.
good:
-lets you enter JUST THE POSTAL CODE as address!! (none of the other gps apps let you do this!!!)
-lets you enter the intersections of two streets as your destination.
-user interface is easy (garmin is easier, tomtom is HARD)
-female voice is pleasant
bad:
-maps are NOT as accurate as tomtom (my destinations are often off by 5 houses in navigon but SPOT ON in tomtom)
-only 2 voices available and both are American accent. if you want british, too bad. also reads street names extremely "robotic"
You have to pay for upgrade.
They dont tell you what the charges are and you cant use the app if you dont except the charges
